Frequently Asked Questions

Lead-acid batteries, introduced in 1859, are one of the oldest and most reliable battery technologies. Widely used in forklifts and other equipment, they operate on principles similar to those found in car batteries.

Though their design has been refined over time, the fundamental technology has remained consistent. Lead-acid batteries are well-suited for single-shift operations and are known for their cost-effectiveness and proven performance in industrial applications.

Lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries, developed in 1991, represent a modern energy storage solution. Known for quick charging, these batteries are commonly found in devices like mobile phones and are increasingly used in industrial settings.

Li-Ion batteries are highly efficient, consuming 30% less energy, which contributes to lower total cost of ownership (TCO). They are capable of opportunity charging, have a longer lifespan than lead-acid batteries, and require minimal maintenance.

Although they have a higher upfront cost, Li-Ion batteries often prove more cost-effective over time due to reduced operational and maintenance expenses.

Li-Ion batteries can be recycled, but the process is a lot more involved and potentially more expensive than the likes of lead-acid. There is currently no facility in South Africa doing recycling of motive power related Li-Ion batteries.

QUASAR™ Carbon Nano batteries, developed by Eternity Technologies, deliver exceptional performance for demanding energy applications. These batteries combine advanced thin tube positive plate technology with cutting-edge carbon nanotube technology in the negative plate.

The result is a high-performance battery with superior energy density, fast charging capabilities, and enhanced efficiency. QUASAR™ batteries are designed for energy-intensive applications and are particularly well-suited for multi-shift, 24/7 operations. They are cost effective and fully recyclable.

For single-shift warehouses, lead-acid batteries are an economical and practical choice. A fully charged battery is installed at the beginning of a shift and typically powers the forklift for the duration. Once the shift ends, the battery is swapped with a recharged one.

However, in multi-shift operations, lead-acid batteries require additional investment in spare batteries, charging infrastructure, and labor for battery replacement. This can make them less cost-effective compared to other technologies.

Lithium-ion batteries are ideal for warehouses with multiple shifts or continuous operations. They remain in the forklift during charging and can be recharged during operator breaks, reducing downtime.

With fast charging capabilities and the ability to be opportunity charged, Li-Ion batteries maximize operational efficiency. Designated charging points in the warehouse and staggered break schedules help ensure smooth operation and availability of charged batteries.

QUASAR™ batteries are engineered for high-performance applications in energy-demanding warehouses. They are particularly beneficial for operations running 24/7 or across multiple shifts.

With ultra-energy efficiency, extended runtime, and fast charging capabilities, QUASAR™ batteries minimize downtime and maximize productivity. Their ability to handle opportunity charging makes them a versatile and cost-effective option for demanding environments.

For warehouses requiring consistent, long-lasting power, QUASAR™ batteries offer a premium solution that combines performance, reliability, and cost savings.

Lead-Acid Batteries: Typically last for 1,200 to 1,500 charge cycles with proper maintenance.

Lithium-Ion Batteries: Last for 2,000 to 4,000 charge cycles, though frequent charging in multi-shift operations can reduce lifespan.

Quasar Carbon Nano Batteries: Offer enhanced cycle life due to reduced operating temperatures and optimized efficiency, extending overall battery lifespan.

The best battery choice depends on your operational needs, budget, and warehouse setup:

Lead-Acid Batteries: Suitable for single-shift operations with sufficient charging space and minimal need for rapid turnaround.

Lithium-Ion Batteries: Ideal for multi-shift or continuous operations requiring flexibility, fast charging, and minimal maintenance.

Quasar Carbon Nano Batteries: The premium choice for high-performance, energy-intensive operations, offering unmatched efficiency, fast charging, and long-lasting reliability. More cost effective than Lithium-Ion Batteries.

Evaluating the specific demands of your operations will help determine the most cost-effective and efficient battery solution.
